Quick question: trying to create adv_file get 'd:\legato' directory doesn't

Getting closer. I finally got the old adv_file removed and I'm trying to add it again. My file is called e:\legato so when I go to type that into the name filed as e:\legato and configure I get this:

directory 'e:\legato' doesn't exist
for security reasons, please ask a system admin to create the directory first in order to proceed.

What does it mean 'create the directory' and where do I create it at?

You need to create a directory first and put the files into that. Open a command box and type:

E:
cd /
mkdir legato

You will then be able to create your AFTD

Have you moved the contents of the other directory into that directory?

Sorry. I've never had to do this before. What directory are you talking about, moving from? I don't understand

awesome thanks it worked!! now I have another issue associated with it. I created the directory and now when I try to mount the volume I get this:

cannot open e:\legato\volhdr file: no such file or directory

What do I do with this?

So this is a completely new AFTD? Then you need to label it into a specific pool before you can use it...

yes completley new. The raid rebuild I talked about in other posts wiped my disks clean. It's like the very first time I set it up

Ok. I labeled it and it created the system mirror (yeay!). I went back into my staging area and made sure to enable it again and now .. my staging isn't working. I have no errors in the networker log view and my app log for the server is clear too. Is there something else I need to be checking for? I was going to use the same volume name for my 'new' rebuilt array (nexsan) but it said it was in use; I can't find it. Is that still tied to the default staging somehow? How can I find a volume when it's not readily visibile? I also have to thank you for your help Dave. The support here is phenomenal!

Have you assigned the new device to your staging policy?

Your old volume probably still exists in the media database - if you go to the Media tab and volumes you can find it in the list, right click and see what it believes is on there and delete it if you wish...

No problem, I'm glad to help!
