Rename a Client
I have read lots of questions asking partial aspects of this, but have found no question, no document explaining the whole thing.
Is it possible to rename a Networker Client?
Which is the procedure?
Use cases for this may be due to a host name change or an error on initial configuration. Suupose that I simply want to change name "server1.mynet" to "server2.mynet" in Networker 7 without losing existing backups of "server1.mynet".

Noel,
To do this you need to:
1. Note the client id of the existing client server1.mynet. – this is at top of the properties of the client definition. Note any other specific setting you have for the client like storage node, backup commands etc.
2. Delete the client from NetWorker
3. Ensure name resolution for server2.mynet is in place and no references to server1.mynet remain in name resolution/hosts.
4. Create new client called server2.mynet and override suggested clientid which is populated automatically by NetWorker. You will receive a warning but that is fine as you want to associate the historical backups with this new client.
5. Set other parameters correctly as previously and save.

Also, remember that once a clientid is created in NetWorker it cannot be delete. You can however change the hostname that the clientid would refer and this relation (as explained Bill Mason) can be changed. All the backup information is bound to the clientid. Also ensure one client machine has only one clientid, having mutiple client id's bound to a single machine (eg : for shortname, FQDN etc) has it own side effects.

I tested it and it worked correctly. Many thanks.
I added an extra step in my setup: Copy all client instances in Networker Console to a brand new dummy client before, and copy back from the dummy client to the renamed client afterwards, in order to keep all backup configurations.

Now what happens if I want to rename another client to be the old name of the first client name, i.e:
rename "server1.mynet" to "server2.mynet"
rename "server3.mynet" to "server1.mynet"
how would you recommend the best way to do this?
Are there additional steps required if "server1.mynet" is a NAS, but server3.mynet is Windows?
kind regards
