SQL backup does not complete with SharePoint 2010 farm backup
I am trying to take a backup of SharePoint 2010 farm having SQL Server 2008 R2 holding the content DBs and other DBs with NMM 3.0.1 and Networker Server 8.1.1. The SQL DB backups will not complete except for rest of the farm backup. Basically the SQL server snapshots are created and completed..but they are not rolled over to the backup medium. It just simply waits for a long time and then times out. Has any one seen this kind of an issue..? and any help will be appreciated. Thanks..
Santhana..

Have you checked the Application and system event logs?
Have you ran config checker? Any errors there?
Thank you,

Yes, that would be fine.. If I am taking SQL backups alone. When, I am taking the entire SharePoint Farm, the SQL DBs are taken backup through VSS method, which I cannot avoid.

Its is best to use the VDI for backing up the SQL data.

This is a distributed farm and configured it with Wizard.. The error you are refering to is,when we had the SQL VSS writer issue initially (it was not visible due to some DB naming issues, specifically DB names ending with space). It is set right now.. and the writer is visible..

Hi Santhana
Can you please let us know how you configured the client? Did you set all the savesets one by one or just the general saveset for SQL server?
Is this distributed or stand-alone farm?
See bellow the error:
An invalid writer selection -- SqlServerWriter\SHPSQLSTG01\SharePoint_Config -- for APPLICATIONS has been entered as a saveset.

you are right.. the SQL VSS writer though found to be stable, when running the command "vssadmin list writers" is actually pbroken internally (i think), I have restarted the SQL VSS writer services and kick started a Single DB backup which ran fine importing the snapshots properly. Now, I am trying to run the whole DBs list that are required as part of SharePoint farm backup. I run the farm backup.. I will share the result with you.. in some time..
Thanks for the guidance in this so far....really appreciate....

Just to update you...NMM took backup of the all the DBs of the Share Point farm, thought it took long time to complete.. there were no errors found..
It is taking lot of time to start rolling over the snapshots ( 3 hours) + 1:30 to actually roll over the data.. Otherwise the backups are running fine....

Hi Santhana,
Did you just restart the SQL Server VSS Writer?
I am having the same issue, I have restarted the SQL VSS Writer but backups still fail.
Also how do you truncate the SQL logs when doing VSS backups using the NMM.
I am new to NetWorker so any help would be appreciated.
