Slow browsing and restore from SQL Databases with EMC Recover for Networker
Hi,
we operate with am IBM AIX 6.1 Power 7 System for our Networker Server. The Server Version is 7.6.4.
Our SQL Admin tell us that he need more than an hour to restore a Database from 200Mb.
So we make an Update on the Client from Version 7.6.3 and SQL Mudul 5.2.2 to Clintversion 8.1.1.2 and NMM 3.0.1.
But there is no improvement to see !!!
If we start the recover Program on the Client it is very slow and you need a lot of time. On the Server you can see that it is browsing....browsing......browsing.... but there is nothing else.....after a long the Server take a tape from the VLT ( DataDomain) and restore the Database.
Can you please help us to become it quicker ????
regards
Marcus

Yes, that is true - GUI sucks
If you use CLI (where you have to specify specific time via -t) it is very very fast. From what I could see issue is that client is browsing many many records in index to build table of available backups from which you can choose restore from and that part takes ages. This is why I use CLI and it works very fast. I'm not sure if this has changed in 8.2 where both backup and restore are integrated with SQL Management Studio - didn't test that version yet.

One thing you will most likely found frustrating is the correct name of file to be used as this usually is how it is called inside SQL kingdom. Filename can be seen from nsrinfo and while in most instances it will be the same as logic might dictate, sometimes you will just have to use nsrinfo to figure out correct name.

Hi Markus,
Perhaps you will find this article helpful
