Tape label Problem in Networker !!!

Hello All,
I have the following configuration:
Networker 7.2..2 and NMO 4.2.
Windows server 2003 server packe 1 (x86)
scsidev@2.4.1:FSC FibreCAT TX08 1.30|Autochanger (Jukebox) S/N: TXDE65300752 ATNN:FSC FibreCAT TX08 TXDE6530

I was trying the Disaster recovery of backup server. I recovered the Networker server (I.e networker index, configuration files etc). After file system restore backup server was up and running.
When I tried to restore the Oracle database, I noticed Networker is waiting for the 'NetMoracle' tape. When I saw the jukebox, the 'NetMoracle' tape was in jukebox but networker was unable to mount the 'NetMoracle' tape.

I tried mount it manually but it failed. To resolve it I 'Reset' the auto-changer. After 'Reset' operation, I saw auto-changer is showing two 'ora' tape with the same label i.e.. NetMoracle.001.

Some time i observed that networker is not showing the correct label of the tape.

Whenever networker mount tape ( example>> volume name : NetMoracle.001) inside device for reading or writing, and after finishing this activity.
When networker starts unmount this tape ( example volume name : NetMoracle.001) from device to mount another tape, during these duration, volume name of another tape display as same volume name ( example volume name : NetMoracle.001) which is already inserted into device, and another tape relabeled with unlabeled, and mounted tape was unable to unmount due to this problem.

So i can summaries i am facing following problem

1) Mount and Unmount Problem
2) Two volume with the same name.
3) Lable of the volume is not correct.

Can anybody have idea why two tapes have the same name. what is the problem and how to prevent it.

Thanks
With Regards
Hemant

I guess you do not use barcodes... Try to reset and inventory your library. If that fails to correct the issue, check with scanner what does it report for their labels (use -n option).

I might be on the wrong track here, but I have seen this before when barcodes are not in used and library gets element reset. Having barcodes should make your life easier.

Hello Hrvoje,
Thanks for the information.
We never faced such problem even we are not using the BaR Codes. We are facing this problem in Tx-08 Juke box.
I don't know whether this is problem in the Hardware ( AutoChanger), driver and Networker.

Can you please let me what is the benefit/bottleneck of enabling bar codes.
what other s/w i need.
What can be the impact of it in disaster recovery, archiving etc.

Thanks
With Regards
Hemant.

Your library needs barcode reader and tapes will need barcode stickers.

With barcodes enabled inventory operations are much faster as HW inventory is compared to nsrjb database (unless instructed otherwise). Without barcodes each time tape needs to be inventoried or that has been change status reported for library - NW will need to load the tape and reinventory labels.

Hi,

you may need to disable the "Removable Storage" service, I think it is enabled. also restart the server if possible.

Also reset the jukebox and do inventory of tapes.

If the problem still persists, you may need to do some maintainence of the indexes.
