Nice question ... and nobody seems to dare answering it. Hmm.

It is difficult ... if not impossible.

Per definition, volume licensing is counted on 'the largest full' over a certain period. This of course would not consider all manual (RMAN) backups.

So if you have a weekly backup cycle, let me suggest that you run "mminfo -ax" and simply look at the weekly number.

Then run a weekly backup report and summarize your fulls and incrementals/diffs. So you get the ratio here.

Now you can use this to estimate the backup sizes for you backup cycle.

Not perfect ... but better than nothing.

Hi,

For information there is a Tools to calculate it.

I use EMC AMP (EMC Asset Management and Planning) , this is a software running discovery on Schedule and give you the total of capacity used for Networker (and for other product).

Sorry but I don't find it on EMC support site. Perhaps this Tools is no more supported ?
