Hi,

are you talking about the backup levels 1-9?

This is an extract from the NetWorker Administration Guide:

Level [1 – 9]:

Backs up files that have changed since the last backup with a lower-numbered backup level. For example:

- A level 1 backup backs up all files that have changed since the most recent full backup (considered a level zero).

- A level 3 backup backs up all files that have changed since the most recent backup at level 2, level 1, or full. For example, if the most recent backup was at level full, then a level 3 backup will back up all files that changed since the full backup. However, if the most recent backup was at level 2, then a level 3 backup will back up only those files changed since the level 2 backup.

- A level 9 backup backs up all the files that have changed since the most recent backup of any level except level 9.

The NetWorker software ignores any incremental-level backups when determining what files should be backed up.

Maybe you should think about downloading this document. Reading the Administration Guide helps in a lot of situations.

These indicate backup levels which are used for 'fulls' and 'differentials'.

Level '0' is also used for fulls.

Levels '1' to '9' are related to their values.

Very rarely, different levels are used at all.

As long as you stay with the same number, you will always run a differential (since the last 'full') ... and you can pick any number.

Let's add that in NW9 level 1 backup remained and others were killed so no need to bang your head about it.  Most people use full and incr only.
