Correct,

This is by design.. The cmd will allow you to choose between SN & DSN... but GUI will configure it as SN

The workaround is to use a temp SN license, and then delete the SN license.

I was asking if you have free DSN licences available. How many DSN you have configured and how many licences do you have?? Can you check output from license summary??

Yes I have already tried with the option of temporary licenses but once these temporary licenses are expired the drives are getting disabled.

If you have any specific process for it pls. share the same and request you to share me temporary "Storage Node' license for Network Edition.

First, create one device for SN, and check dedicated Storage node option in configuration tab.

I have 3 permanent DSN licenses but when I'm configuring getting below Error:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turn NetWorker auto-cleaning on (yes / no) [yes]? no

The following drive(s) can be auto-configured in this jukebox:
1> LTO Ultrium-4 @ 8.0.0 ==> \\.\Tape0
2> LTO Ultrium-4 @ 0.0.0 ==> \\.\Tape1
These are all the drives that this jukebox has reported.

To change the drive model(s) or configure them as shared or NDMP drives,
you need to bypass auto-configure. Bypass auto-configure? (yes / no) [no] yes
Is (any path of) any drive intended for NDMP use? (yes / no) [no] no
Is any drive going to have more than one path defined? (yes / no) [no] yes

You will be prompted for multiple paths for each drive.
Pressing on a null default advances to the next drive.

Please enter the device path information in one of the following formats:

\\.\Tape0 --for local path or
host:device-path --for remote node or NDMP device(s) or
host:drive-letter:directory path --for Windows disk file

Drive  1, element 1, system device name = \\.\Tape0,

Device path 1 ? [\\.\Tape0]
Device path 2 ? ct-l-sql01:\\.\Tape0
Device path 3 ? ct-l-sql02:\\.\Tape0
Device path 4 ? ct-l-sql03:\\.\Tape0
Device path 5 ?

Drive  2, element 2, system device name = \\.\Tape1,

Device path 2 ? ct-l-sql01:\\.\Tape1
Device path 3 ? ct-l-sql02:\\.\Tape1
Device path 4 ? ct-l-sql03:\\.\Tape1
Device path 5 ?

Only model LTO Ultrium-4 drives have been detected.
Are all drives in this jukebox of the same model?  (yes / no) [yes]

Should ct-l-sql03 be configured as a Dedicated Storage Node? (yes / no) [no] yes

Hi,

It's asking for storage node enabler license required eventhough I have dedicated storage node licenses.

Thanks,

Devdutta

If you are configuring library from cmd, you have to run “jbconfig –s backupservername” from DSN and user you are logged in has to be in NetWorker administrator’s list. Do you have these rights??

If you do, try to create only standalone device from NMC first and check for it DSN option, than try to create library again.

If you use wizard, at least in older versions, DSN setting on devices was not possible during configuration and had to be changed afterwards.  Since it was also checking for license it would usually fail and that led people to use temporary sn licenses.  It seems as if you didn't checked DSN option on device properties afterwards - you should.

DevDutta,

You need a working (not expired) Storage Node licence to begin. (pay up $$)

1. When you create a new SN, the working SN licence will be attached (picked up).

2. Open the property of that new SN, switch it to Dedicated Storage Node.

This should take up one DSN licence, and release the SN licence.

I forget exactly which tab in the property. If you don't leave the SN licence free, you cannot manage the DSN licences.

Sounds stupid? That's the way it is. For years, we begged Online support (WebChat) for the temporary licence. After a while we used up all their Temp SN licences.

Actually, you don't need it. If you use jbconfig you can specify easily that you use DNS and no issues.  This only applies (or at least it did apply) to GUI method and jbedit if I remember correctly.  As for temp license, my experience is different - I never had issues with that.  Since library is configured once and unlikely to be reconfigured again, this is not big deal really.

Even I hav a similar experience, while we configure our devices(DSN) from cmd prompt....it asks for a prompt to create it as a dedicated storage node, while if we are trying to do it from GUI.....it has to first become a SN and then a DSN...a little wierd thing out here....

HI Devdutta,

I experienced same problem once, i used following steps from GUI:

1) Firstly add a new storage in devices tab

2) Scan for devices

3) When devices appear, right click drive and select configure drive it will demand temporary Storage Node licence .

4) Open a chat with EMC and demand for temp SN licence.(Try this one " 9c991e-4a58f9-696ae6 ")

5) Enter the storage node licence by GUI or using nsrcap command.

6) Repeat step 3 this time drive will configure.

7) Now right click the properties of that drive in devices, go to configuration tab and select Dedicated storage node option to Yes and save & Exit

8) Now if you have permanent licence with you, you can delete the temp licence.

Hope it will work!!

Sarang
