VADP backup hangs with ddboost error
Hello everyone!
I've a problem with a vadp backup .
On a single large VM (about 300 GB) the vadp backup starts , create the vmware snap , but on the writing phase it gives me an error :
Emergency | Thursday 9:48:15 AM | event | media | Media emergency: Cannot write to /backup_server/storage_node/96/55/7db72ddd-00000006-02866c7d-4f866c7d-03ff5000-6a208e56 - No error |
and then the backup hangs , I've to manually stop it .
NW server 7.6.3.3 (2008R2)
NW s/N (vadp proxy) 7.6.3.3 (2008R2)
vsphere 5
Data Domain OS 5.0.2.3-259543
I've opened and sr , and they pinpointed a parallelism problem, but on this proxy I've only one ddboost device , but I've got this problem also backing up only this machine .
I've randomly the same problem on other VM (some big , some small) in another group , which contains many VMS , but I'm planning to split this group.
any idea?
Andrea

Hello everyone,
On friday 13th I've changed the NIC configuration of the DDR , from portchannel to DDboost interface group.
Additionaly i've splitted the workload between the various proxies / SN
after this change in the configuration the error disappeared ( I did'nt have any explanation for this , I think there's some timeout involved somewhere which now is handled correctly)

Hi Andrea,
I'm seeing the same issue. Same error message.I don't believe it should be a paralism issue.
Do you still have a SR opened? please post if you solve the issue

Hi Andrea,
Would you please try if you can direct the backup data to another media for testing ? We need to check if you have on that media any failures\contention or performance issues.
Also it seems to correspond to the scenario described in this Powerlink Knowledgebase article:

Waiting your updates.

Hi Ahmed,
I've tried to direct the backup on two different DDR (the customer has fully switched to DDBoost) , but the error message seems to appear randomly.
Yesterday the full backup with the FLR enables has worked :
the group has taken 8 hours , of which only 2 for writing (see mminfo output)
Start time: Thu Apr 12 14:46:46 2012
End time: Thu Apr 12 22:48:07 2012
client name lvl ssid size date time ss created ss completed ssflags
CLIENT11 FULLVM full 2173115210 278 GB 04/12/2012 20:13 04/12/2012 20:13 04/12/2012 22:47 vF
it seems that it needed about 6 hours to index the snap .
I've read the MS kb articles , but it refers to win2003 , not to win2008 R2 , which have fixed this kind of problem.
Today we're going to perform some more tests on this VM
