VMWare Backup Options
Can anyone who has got the VMWare Consolidated Backup give a quick description on how it works. The documents are all a bit vague.
Specifically I'm interested in if the Storage Node that is acting as the proxy needs to be able to see the the disks directly (via SAN?) that the VMware server is using? (i.e. if you have some VMWare servers with local disks is VCB not possible?)
Licensing wise, if you're not using VCB, can you still get a Virtual client licence, and have it cover you for multiple clients (if they're all on the same physical box)
Many thanks

You don't need direct access to the SAN or local storage in VI 2.5 /ESX 3.5 or higher. The VCB proxy can request the backup over the network.
The Virtual Client License covers an ESX host for backup of the VMs running on it. You configure individual clients almost like a normal client. If you use vMotion, HA, DRS etc you will need to consider getting the license for each ESX server the VMs may reside on.
