VSS problem of drive on Dell SAN box

Hi,

I have a Dell SAN box MD38xxf offering a LUN to a Windows server 2012-R2 where it is set up as D: drive.

In my Networker V 8.2 config, i have a client and specified D:\ as saveset

The Volume shadow copy service runs on the Windows2012-R2 server

Networker gives the following message:

5886:save: VSS failed t otake a backup (VSS error 0x80042306)

80517:save: snapshot attempt ......

90108: unable to save the syste mstate (error VSS 0x80042301)

94693:save: backup of saveset D:\ failed

Any idea where to search ?

Thanks in advance

Johan

Try Google

This is typical error when writer is not right state so you can check that with vssadmin command.  There are more than one thing that may lead to this and if you use KB search or Google you will find numerous and different cases.  With that said, 1st thing check state of your writers and second try to isolate it to see where it breaks exactly if correcting writer state doesn't help.

My general workaround is:

- perform "vssadmin list writers" to see if anything is in a failed state

If yes-

- Restart nsrbbb ("net stop nsrbbb")

- Restart volume shadow copy services

- Restart Cryptographic Services

- Rename /nsr/tmp directory

I haven't run into a situation where this didn't fix it.

If you are doing BBB it will run a full.
