VSS save sets - retention/media pools

with our ever growing number of Win2008 servers, we are getting killed with tapes that have VSS save set data on them.   Does anyone route this data to a seperate set of tapes/volumes, so that they can be written over after 30/60 or 90 days?

I really don't believe that we would ever try to restore a system back 60 or 90 days, so this data is just tying up tape space.   SInce we keep our FULL backups forever, I'd like to route this data to another pool, and then recycle after a set time period.

Anyone else do this?  Any concerns that I'm not thinking of?

Any restriction on sending these VSS save sets to different pools/volumes?

This is actually going to change with NetWorker 7.6.2 since the VSS backups won't be part of the save set all in 7.6.2.

But with 7.5.1 and up to 7.6.1 you can specify saveset All-ntfs to backup the filesystem of the Server 2008 clients with filesystem backup groups. Then you can specify the clients in a special VSS Backup group that writes to a pool with a different retention. This will save you alot of space on your tapes since you don't need as much retention on the VSS savesets as with the other savesets (usually).

Best regards,

Johannes
