What does Networkers verify feature really mean?

Hi all,

In [1] I found the following passage:

"Use the NetWorker Verify feature to ensure that backup data on the NetWorker server matches the data on the local disk. The Verify feature compares the file types, file modification times, file sizes, and file contents."

I don' t understand how something on the local disk can match with the contents of backup sets on the NetWorker server.

When I backup a continuously updated file there will be never a match between a backuped version and the latest, productive version of the file.

Can someone please clarify that?

Thanks.

Hi Coconut,
Please see below further explanation of Verification feature extracted from NetWorker 7.6 Service Pack 2 Administration Guide:
The Verify feature compares the file types, file modification times, file sizes, and file contents. It does not verify other system attributes, such as read-only, archive, hidden, system, compressed, and file access control list (ACL). The NetWorker server alerts you to any changes that have  occurred to your data since the backup. Verification also determines whether a  hardware failure kept the NetWorker server from completing a successful backup.
The Verify feature provides a way to test the ability to recover data.
Basically Verification feature checks the files just backed up with those currently on disk. If there is any difference between them then NetWorker will let you know.
Thank you.
Carlos.
