Where does backup server keep the index & bootstrap files?
Hi,
In our field(Site ID: 8247402) the backup server keeps a copy of index & bootstrap in index volume. But i have found that i am able to restore the data even if i lost the index vol.
I guess Backup servers may keep the index & bootstrap within itself. If i am right where it keeps?

index data is placed on /nsr/index and bootstrap in /nsr/mm and /nsr/res. This is your online catalog and configuration database. This is also backed up based on configuration parameters to your backup volumes which you can use to restore it in case that data inside /nsr/mm, index and res get deleted/corrupted/whatever.

The index and bootstrap backup are to be used during a disaster or corruption. This is already on the backup server as already mentioned in the previous post. You can skip taking a backup of these data but again your are at risk of data loss incase of a disaster or a crash.

how long server keeps the index & bootstrap data within itself? is there any retention policy?

The retention of the index files is equal to the retention set on the client for which the index backup is triggered.
I am not quite not clear about the retention set on the bootstrap , but here is my understanding. in case the NetWorker server is part of the group for which the bootstrap is run then it will take the retention period set on that client instance of the backup server. Else it will take the highest retention that is set on the configured client instance on the server.

Hi everyone, I am moving this thread to the NetWorker Support Forum where the question discussed in this thread can be better seen and addressed by a larger group of audience there. The ECN Help Forum is only for discussions/questions regarding the functionalities or usage of the EMC Community Network platform itself rather than any actual EMC products/solutions.
