Top of the head it may indicate permission issue. Do you use some user to do this backup?

If you can share the logs it would be easier to analyze.

Have you registered WSS writer in all WFE servers?

See event log for details. So what does the event log say?

check if share point vss writer and oss search writer is registered and is in stable state .
check for stuck shadows ,if stuck delete them.hope it should work
