configure netwotker with backup hostname
Hi ,
can i configure networker client to use another host-name rather than the original host-name
i was using netbackup and when i install netbackup client i add the hostname like server1-bkp
i want to do the same , because in my environment i have 2 servers with the same name
and i want to install agent on them at same time , we use this to migrate oracle db , we backup from one node and recover to another
oracle dba requires 2 servers to be with same host-names , in this case this will not be handled by networker
i would like also want to know how does networker handle hostname of server
does it look at hosts file or from dns , i have configured some clients
some of them use only hostname of server and others use fully qualified name from dns
Thanks in advance
Best Regards

You should pick up your own standard and stick to it
I normally use FQDN for standalone machines and hostnames for cluster names. So far, it worked fine.
If box A had couple of name (each of those representing some VLAN on the box A), you define box A in NW as one of these names and rest you use as an alias. You control over which interface communication goes via fields like server backup interface, storage node, etc. However, when you define box A, initial communication from server to box A always goes via name which you used to define it. If you wish to change that, remove that client definition and do it again with desired name and same clientid value as previous definition.
