The backups can be send to either:

GSAN: i.e. Appliance internal storage- in this case the internal AFTD is is used to store metadata for the backups

OR

BOOST: i.e. Data domain system using the boost API

Hope this helps!

Section: NetWorker

From there go to Documentation and check documents like "NetWorker 8.1 VMware Integration Guide".

Hi,

On the bottom of page 51 of the integration guide, it specifies where you set the 'destination pool' for the backup.  You should label an AFTD volume into that pool in order to backup to it.  If you're unsure how to do that, check out the NetWorker Administration Guide page 157:  'Create and Configure an AFTD'.

I configure networker as per following procedure,but i can't achieve the task.

can you  help me?

the steps:

emc networker administrator----->device--->new device wizard-->

advanced file type device(aftd)--->next -->browse or manual--->manually enter local or remote device path: /dd/rstr01/backup

(

i mount datadomain export on /dd/rstr01/backup directory of netwoker server that coexist with storage node on the same server,we have only one storage node license.

mount -l      :the command executed in the networker  server show the following results :

dd.domain.com:/data/col1/backup on /dd/rstr01/backup type nfs (rw,hard,intr,vers=3,proto=tcp,addr=172.24.1.15

)

--next ---next--->in label and mount devices tab :pool field:default        :i can't select the vba pool to label  the device:

--next----finish

emc networker administrator-----configuration--vmware protection policy

---default-----definition:vmware actions:destination pool field list only default pool vba internal

point out if I'm wrong please

thanks and best regards

NVP supports only GSAN or BOOST devices for Backup- hence you can have a pool with boost devices only and select that for backup actions.

You may choose setup a clone action which then clones this data to AFTD pool

Please reply back if clarification is needed.

appreciate your help,

do you mean that i can't use the dd aftpd device as the vmware protection backup(not clone) destination?

Is there a method default vba device reference the dd export nfs or cifs share (direct backup data to dd export)?

device access information of default vba device is  /nsr/vba/internal_aftd that is a local directory of networker server coexist with storage node in context of my backup architecture ,how does it backup data to nbra (networker backup and recover appliance)?

thanks and best regards

thank for you prompt response.

does the internal AFTD  use to store metadata for the backups only?

does vmware backup alternative solution vadp support vmware vcenter server applicance 5.5?

Isn't that latest NW supports boost with AFTD? (though, restricted to Windows only I believe)

i afraid that confuse the default VBA device of networker with the storage space of vba,the internal AFTD is is used to store metadata for the backups,storage space of vba is used to store the save set,is it right?

if it is right ,is there a method  configure storage space of vba reference dd nfs ?
