I am running a CDL emmulating an ADIC. I had my Linux guys install Networker as a storage node. I then configured a drive on the CDL. Once the drive was configured on the CDL I had my Linux guy look to see if he could see the drive. He saw it in /dev/nst0. I then created a device using jbedit -a. I added it using the name rd=omzgrid13:/dev/nst0. omzgrid13 is the Linux server name. I then tried to conduct my backup. This is when I got the I/O error. Thanks in advanced for the help

My guess is that we have some kind of configurational problem. Can you give us some indication of how the storage node has been configured and is being used? Can you also verify on the storage node that the storage node daemon nsrmmd is running.

Did you configure this as jukebox device belonging to the jukebox robotic on server or storage node? First part of the error seems to indicate nsrmmd was not able to start for given device descrition (no nsrexecd daemon running, no path for given device, etc). It would be nice if you could provide inquire -cl output from the storage node. Unless you are not able to mount dismount tapes using nsrjb (or system tool which should be next test if nsrjb fails) don't even try backup.

If this is your first drive configured on the CDL did you run jbconfig to configure the library on the storage node? I don't believe it is possible to configure a library with any drives so you may have incorrectly used an existing library (for example one attached to the Networker server) when you used the jbedit command...?

Try deleting the drive/CDL jukebox and reconfiguring again from jbconfig.

couple of things to look for, check the disk space on the CDL appliance is ok (not the CX??? space but the filesystem space on the disklibrary (linux appliance) itself. A full /usr on a CAMEN can cause tape size limiting and other strange issues. The ipstorfm module can drop big 1GB cores, if you can login to it try a `disklibrary status` and looking in /var/log/messages etc)

VTape corruption can occur from SCSI bus resets if on a SAN. SCSI bus resets cane cause the vtape to rewind and be overwritten (losing data from the original tape).
[ DDS storagenodes and CDLs are a known issue]

Thanks for the help. I discovered that Linux Redhat Enterprise 4 is not supported by Legato 7.2.1. I will need to install 7.3 into production and try again. Thanks for all the help.
