license upgrade needed?
Hi,
I'm planning to migrate the server from 2003 R2 to 2008 R2. With the save server box, do I need to upgrade the licenses? I don't know if the host id will be changed after migtraion,
Regards,
James

James,
If you are just upgrading the OS and not changing the hardware I don’t believe the hostid etc will change as we have same name, IP address, SID etc, therefore you should not require any amendment to the licenses.
If hardware is changing then hostid will probably change as it is based on SID from host.

Hi,
As you are moving to a new host, you will need to contact EMC licensing. You can get further details of the procedure in this article. Also, another member of this forum did the same thing recently (without the hostname change) and provided details here:

Thanks to Bobby and William.
Yes, my hardware is the same, and hostname, IP address will also be same. So I need not to treat the licenses

Hi James,
William's answer is correct for some UNIX Operating System such as Solaris SPARC... but since you have Windows Operating System then a new installation will generate new SID. Thus, NetWorker will have new hostid and you need to contact Licensing or login to your Powerlink Account and generate new Auth Codes.
