mssql database incremental backup takes longer time to backup..

hi everyone,

i have this problem that our emc networker server takes time to do an incremental backup with our MSSQL database. basically this backup could only takes to minutes..but later on, it takes an hour and even in a day..can you help me with this kind of problem??

For more information: Networker Server version is 8.1 that resides on MS Windows Server 2008 R2.

                                Networker Client and Module is 8.1 and 2.4 respectively. that resides on MS Server 2003.

Randy,

      -  Does it eventually fail or just sits there untill you abort the backup ?

      - Are the backups configured to run through VDI or through VSS ?

      -  Also, are the backups running or sitting in queued /Active state in the waiting to run list ? Or does the backup ever start the or just sits in the to run queue ?

please check the stripped value of your backup.

Timeout during VDI BAckup

I would never use 8.1 + NMM 2.4 combo for SQL (I would rather use old NMSQL and older NW version).  I believe reason you went into this combo was win2k3 machine, but your organisation should consider updating.

the backup is scheduled at 1:00am where there are no transactions happening..when i get in our office, at exactly 8:00am..i immediately remote our networker server and there i found that the backup is not yet done, in fact it is incremental, so it come to a point that i need to stop or abort the backup process..

what do you mean by vdi and vss crazyrov? actually i am new to networker.

vdi and vss is not networker thingy...

its an api that talks to sql server on how/what method to backup...

You need to check the logs first to see why is this happening.  You will find logs on client side. When you say it was still running question is if backup was really still running or hanging.
