no savesets on this volume

Hi Guys,

we have a NW 7.4.4 on win 2003 sp2.

The problem we are seeing is a strange one. In our media database there a number of recyclable volumes that if they are double clicked on we get an error message saying:

"no savesets on this volume"

Also we if we run mminfo -V "volume name" we get no results back. These tapes then just sit there and do not get automatically recycled. Like I said this only happens on a few tape whilst on other recyclable tapes we can still view the savesets on them both via the GUI and through mminfo.

The problem is fixed if we delete the volumes from the media DB or if we start scanning them back in and quickly abort the scan. This is becoming a huge problem for us as we haven't the time frame to do carry these tasks out during the night.

Has anyone seen this before?

Have you managed to get a permanent fix?

David if you have a look at all the the savesets they are all in an expired status thus making the tape in an expired state.

Let's not get confused just yet! This output:

ssid date size ssflags expires
4072344306 14/03/2009 39 MB vrEF expired

Is a saveset output, not an output of details of a volumes status; try this one:

mminfo -av -q volume=000129,volume=000130 -r volume,pool,volretent

The nsrim -V output sounds correct to me.

The question is why is that tape not being reused. Please check the following information:

* pool name of tapes being reused and tapes not
* pool required for backup
* in media pool config check pool can label to/from other pool
* are other expired media in the same pool being reused?

I was banking on you staging data as this would account for the missing savesets on the volume; the only other way I can think that they might vanish is that there is an nsrmm command that is deleting the savesets.
