Couple of potential steps:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=se&lc=sv&dlc=sv&tmp_geoLoc=true&docname=c01316043

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/dbd2a8f6-c4fb-4412-969e-7b0ce940cd2d/volume-shadow-copy-operation-failed-for-backup-volumes?forum=windowsbackup

Backups fails with VSS Event ID 12292 and 11 on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2

If you google around you will find many folks and applications having same issue and one or two resolution methods may the right for your case too.  Not sure what Windows OS and NW version you use, but I would bet on some of those articles.

This looks like an OS issue to me. Hope you have already tried a reboot of the system (client) ?
