vba volume invalid choice for mm operation

Question

Hi We have a vtl tape volume we are trying to delete but i get the error as vba volume invalid choice for mm operation when i do a mminfo on the volume. mminfo -q volume=A00063 6095:mminfo: no matches found for the query in my tape library it is not seen as a volume. But i see it under MEdia cli /nsr/mm/mmvolume6/#: nsrmm -d -V A00063 6286:nsrmm: invalid volume id: A00063

Of course it should read ... Also remember that the delete commands are either    nsrmm -d volume             or    nsrmm -d -V volid

You will not see it in your library as long as the location has not been set (did you export it?).

However, it should still be in your media index. This seems to be a bug.

If so, re-import/deposit it before you can delete it.

On your VTL can you check the current location of the volume ? if it is in the vault move it to the library and run an inventory for it.

I do not have a VTL in place but i just verified that NW 8.1.1.4 will definitively 'delete' a tape if it has just been labeled but it is empty. This is similar to your case although it is not exactly the same.

This is definitively a bug as NW would not be able to manage ALL offsite media.
