4 New M6348 Switches - Need guidance on initial configuration
Hello all,
I would like to configure the 4 M6348 switches that I have in a stack to make one logical 196 port switch.
1. If I assign all of the stack ports VLAN 100, 101, 102, 103, etc.. + the management VLAN, then the only traffic that will pass in between the the stack members will be traffic on those VLANs that I specified on each stack port correct?
2. If I assign eth0/0/01 to VLAN 100, then it will only send and receive traffic on VLAN 100 correct? it will not accept traffic from any other VLAN?
3. To trunk a port, I would simply assign that port multiple VLANs correct?
4. What are port channels used for? I would like a definition from the Dell side of things.
5. What is best practice for the ports that will be used for stacking? port-fast, no DCB, members of the same port channel, port channel configured with the same VLANs?
6. What would be the initial commands to setup the stack?
I tried to look for Dell CLI reference guides but could only find PDFs tied to specific switches. I was looking for a more complete guide for learning purposes. I guess you have to take a course to learn Dell CLI.
Anyway, any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for the response Daniel, very informative!
If I place a port in trunked mode for VLAN 100, the PVID is automatically 100 then? Or is there another command to set the PVID?
I want it to accept all untagged traffic and reject any traffic from other VLANs as the ports on VLAN 100 will be for iSCSI SAN traffic only.
Also, you mentioned the stacking cable will be different. I am going to order 4 of these for stacking: http://www.cablestogo.com/product/33070
will those work? I have measured lengths. I think 1m is overkill if you are just stacking between switches in the same blade enclosure.
Thanks,
Nick
