Attaching empty switch to PowerConnect 6024 causes STP reset

Whenever I attach a new empty switch to either my PowerConnect 6024 or a downstream switch, the entire network goes offline for about 60 seconds.  The logs in the 6024 show each active port switches to STP status blocking, then to STP status forwarding a second or so later.

 

I have the network configured for Rapid STP, and I'm running 4 VLANs using the 6024 to route between them.  I'm running firmware version 1.0.2.07 on the 6024.
