Dell Powerconnect 3448
Hi,
I'm trying to configure this switch, been factory reset.
There's a console port on the back, so I tried plugging in my console cable into it then the other end (RJ45) into the back of my laptop, but not sure how to get it to pick up in Putty.
I've also got a RJ45 to USB so tried plugging into Port 1 and other end (USB) into my laptop, then COMs port in putty - nothing.
I've also got a female 9 pin to USB cable to connect onto the 9 pin male to RJ45 cable, again tried plugging into Port 1 etc, no use.
What am I doing wrong or what cable do I need?
Thanks in advance

This for the Console 9pin to RJ45 console cable?
If so, what do I put in the putty 'serial' box for the RJ45 connection?
Thanks

The pinout is not necessarily the same as other brands so if it isn’t a cable from us it may not work unless you rewire it.

Could I use a cable like this from the switch console (serial) port to USB connecting to my laptop?

Thank you for your quick response.
What would you suggest?
I don't want something too expensive or over the top as I've got this 1 dell switch just to play around with and gain experience with.
Thanks

Hello,
I'd think it may work, but it would depend on the software tool to support it. I talked to a buddy of mine on the network team about this sort of conversion, though. He advised me that he'd recommend against it. He's tried a couple of times on some newer models, but apparently, getting the connection established wasn't very easy.

I'd look at a serial cable. I also found this old thread, looks like the OP was running into a similar issue to you. It seems that the Serial cable usage corrected it. If you can, I'd test this.
