Hello,

I have come across the same issue with the Dell PowerConnect 6248.  The switch crashed in the middle of uploading firmware 3.3.7.3 and was already running firmware and bootcode 3.3.1.10.  I had to power cycle it to get it to respond, but it would not boot properly.  I ended up having to delete all the configs and images because it could not load the images (bad CRC or something like that).  I re-uploaded the 3.3.1.10 image via XMODEM and it would at least boot into the operational code, but I am getting these errors on boot and none of the ports will work:

<187> APR 22 20:09:07 10.222.5.240-1 DRIVER[79462592]: l7_usl_bcm.c(1788) 419 %%

Any help would be appreciated.  These were supposed to go into production on 12/10.  Looks like that's not gonna happen.

Hi Daniel,

I will upload 3.3.8.2 and see what happens.  I do have two identical switches that were in the process of being stacked (I had just installed the stacking modules and connected them to each other recently).  However, I have cleared the config several times and even restored to "factory defaults" on the boot menu.  Also, I disconnected the stacking cables and powered down unit #2.  In this case, would the switch still think it was supposed to be part of a stack?

I need to drive into the data center and disconnect all the Ethernet cables that are currently connected to this switch, and then I will upload 3.3.8.2 and give it a shot.  If that does not work, what would the next steps be?  Thanks.

Sorry For Resurrecting such an old thread, but I'm having this exact same issue, same error codes, and all.

The MAC address doesn't match the Sticker on the device. What should I do now?

I was finally able to fix this problem by running Flash Diagnostics and entering the correct MAC address, serial number, and service tag. If you're running v2.x.x.x of the firmware, the Flash Diagnostics option is available from the Boot Menu. However, if you're running v3.x.x.x, you'll have to follow these steps:

  • - Enter the Boot Menu
  • - Select option 30 (a super-secret, unlisted option)
  • - Enter the password "pc62xxkinnick"
  • - Select the Flash Diagnostics option

This should erase all sectors on the flash including where the MAC address is burned in. When the switch resets, make sure you enter the correct MAC address, serial number, and service tag which should all be printed on the back of the switch.

Once you're done with that, you should be able to flash the latest version of the firmware using XMODEM as normal.

This resolved the issue I was having with a PC6248 I recently purchased. Thanks, Nate!
