Dell or Avocent model Remote access KVM setup

HI,

I have two racks with and need to manage servers with sips on both racks from the one LCD console which i also need to buy (1U in height, pull out/slide in etc)

Now, i have set up a 2161DS on a single rack in a different building before but if i have 2 racks now, do i need to route say 5 seperate cables/sips together to the 5 servers in the far rack or will the Avocent KVM over IP technology work as in the following link.

Is there a definate need for the second remote swith if the one 16 port kvm switch with the above technology?
I was looking at this also, any opinions?

I normally use this forum for after sales support but have just been given this to sort out
Looking to purchase solution week beginning 8th Oct.

Thanks in advance

Your Dell servers will need to be located in the same room where your Dell KVM over IP switch is located because the maximum distance that you can go between the server and KVM switch is a total of 50ft. The diagram is representing that you can obtain KVM over IP connectivity to either of the Dell KVM over IP switches to gain access to your servers for each location. The Avocent product is a 1x1x16 solution with just 1 IP user. If you ar eokay with just one IP user then I would recommend this product. Fallback is you will have to use the Dell software to manage the Dell switch and Avocent software to manage the Avocent switch.
