Firmware update acts like it succeeds, but doesn't change anything...

I have two new Powerconnect 5424 that I would like to update the firmware on before I deploy them in production.  I follow the documentation exactly as described, and am able to copy the image (version 2.0.0.35) and boot (version 2000) files for the latest firmware issued in Feb, 2009 (the serial console showing they copied correctly).  Once I complete the copying of files to the switch via TFTP, and perform a "show bootvar" it returns 2 lines, image-1 and image-2 that show a version of 1.0.2.7 which is the factory installed image; not the latest version.  That is where the documentation an what I am seeing stray from eachother.

Has anyone else ran into this?  If so, how can Iresolved this?

Thanks,

I have not seen this.  Please post the entire serial capture from boot-up, to loading the new firmware, to checking the bootvar.

Your "powerconnect_54xx_20035.ros" may be corrupted.  It should be 4605492 bytes (not  3867941 bytes as shown above)..  Download it again from the Dell website and try again.

If the new file appears correct and it still does not work, try a different TFTP server.  I use TFTD32 with no issues.

Hello,

Capturing the text on the console exceeded the buffer, so I didn't capture the entire sequence from boot up (let me know if you'd still like this), but here is what it did capture.  Note what it returns from the "show bootvar" after I copied the correctly.

console# copy tftp://10.10.0.50/powerconnect_54xx_20035.ros image
01-Jan-2000 00:05:16 %COPY-I-FILECPY: Files Copy - source URL tftp://10.10.0.50e

Copy: 3867941 bytes copied in 00:02:12 [hh:mm:ss]

console# copy tftp://10.10.0.50/powerconnect_54xx_boot-2000.rfb boot
01-Jan-2000 00:07:57 %COPY-I-FILECPY: Files Copy - source URL tftp://10.10.0.50T

Copy: 524304 bytes copied in 00:00:24 [hh:mm:ss]

console# show bootvar
Image  Filename   Version     Date                    Status
-----  ---------  ---------   ---------------------   -----------
1      image-1    1.0.2.7     17-Jun-2008  20:04:29   Active*
2      image-2    1.0.2.7     17-Jun-2008  20:04:29   Not active

"*" designates that the image was selected for the next boot

Ah... good catch!  ...yeah, that was the problem.  I downloaded the new .ros file, and everything worked fine.  I was also using TFTD32 without issue.

Thanks again for your quick responses.
