Force10 S25 Issues, three bad ones?

I have three Force 10 S25s that we purchased from Dell. They were recertified and out of warranty (I'm don't know id they even came with a warranty)

Anyway I cannot connect with any of them via the console. Nor do they get link lights when connected to an Intel X540-T2.

I've tried different servers in case I blew the serial ports. I've made a straight through cable and connected with to an RJ45 to serial adapter (This works with a Dell PowerConnect switch)

The serial connection is 9600/8/1. I'm not sure what else to try. Three bad switches seem odd (Although we have had problems with other devices on this shipment from Dell.)

Anything I've missed?

Hi,

The console cable for Force10 is different than the ones for Powerconnect, and the pinouts on the cables are not the same.

Link is no longer available. DELL-Admin

Minor update. Apparently we have a total of seven of these and they all do the same thing. Also, We didn't purchase these Dell. We bought them from someone who bought them from a Dell Service Center.

I'm not sure if these were returns and we got ripped off or not. Still seven bad switches is a pretty odd.

The stack ID light works fine, I just can't log into it to set it up. Any ideas are appreciated.

Good news. But first...

According tho the knowledge base artical "Switches that use RJ45 straight-through (Not Dell specific): Force10 S25, S50"

I was already using a straight through cable, which worked with the PowerConnect. For kicks I made a rollover cable and that worked.

Even though the KB article seems to be backward , your link solved my problem.

Thanks,

Dan
