Management port on operations network

Hi,

Apologies in advance, to me this looks like a basic question but I don't seem to find an answer.

Conceptually, I understand that a management port on a switch is normally intended to be connected to a management network (e.g. 10.1.0.0/24) separated from the network operated by the switch (e.g. 10.2.0.0/24). However, I would like the management port on my switch to be reachable on the same subnet that the switch is operating on. How can I best achieve this?

Many thanks.

Which model switch? Some of ours won’t allow this and some will.

Hi,

So following up with my previous example, say my operations network is 10.2.0.0/24. Then I configure the management port with address 10.2.0.100 following the instructions on page 42. The next step would be to connect the management port into one of the operations port (i.e. from 1 to 48) with an ethernet cable?

Many thanks.
