N2024P reports inline power being off

Hello,

We have one N2024P that apparently fails to deliver power over PoE. I haven't  tested the device myself but I have received reports that PoE device connected to any of the ports won't power up.

If I check the inline power status the switch reports it's off.

sw# show power inline  | include ^Pow

Power.......................................... Off
Power Management Mode.......................... Dynamic
Power Detection Mode........................... dot3at+legacy

The switch appears to see PoE controller at least:

sw# show power inline firmware-version

Unit      Firmware Version
----      ----------------
1         265_1

How could I inverstigate this further? I see nothing PoE related in the logs. I didn't find any way to disable or enable PoE the switch globally.

Best regards,

Matti

One of the first things I suggest checking is the firmware. The latest firmware includes some PoE improvements.

What type of PoE device is trying to be powered on?

The switch isn't running the latest firmware, that's true. We have similar switches running the same the software that can power up similar wifi access points that is failing to get power on this particular 2048P.

I try rephrase my question:

What does it mean when the output of the command "show power inline" tells that the power is off?

Best regards,

Matti

The power is only going to be supplied once the switch has a PoE device plugged into it.

We could try reseting one of the ports that has a PoE device plugged into it.
Console(config)# interface gigabitethernet 1/0/1
Console(config-if)# power inline reset
Console(config-if)# power inline never
Console(config-if)# power inline auto
Then test PoE for any behavior changes.

Do you have any different PoE devices you test on the switch? What wattage does the PoE device require? Do you know if it requires any specific TLVs? Is LLDP enabled on the switch?
