Need help with mirroring and/or port spanning.
Hi,
I have an application (Websense Enterprise) that will not make use of it's bandwidth optimization feature without specific settings on the switch that the command console is connected to. Here's what it says:
You must configure a switch to use mirroring, 2-way port spanning, or promiscuous mode, so that the Network Agent can detect Internet requests from all the workstations.
I just replaced our old 3com switches with two stacks of Dell 3348 PowerConnect Switches. They are working fine out of the box, but I'm not familiar enough with them to know if any of these things is enabled by default. If not, how do I do it? Which of these (mirroring, 2-way port spanning, or promiscuous mode) does the 3348 do?
Thanks!

See the "Defining Port Mirroring Sessions" section of the online User's Guide for the functions and limitations of port mirroring on the 3348. This section is found under the "Configuring Ports" section at the following link:

Note: When a port is configured as a destination port, it will not accept ingress traffic from the management station. If the management station needs to send traffic (TCP resets, deny messages, etc.), it will need to use a second interface or NIC connected to a standard port on the switch.
