Network slowness/crash when connecting Layer 2 Netgear to Powerconnect 6224p
Hi All,
I have noticed a lot of problems with the network performance after connecting Netgear Layer 2 switch to our Powerconnect 6224p (room 222) Layer 3 switch.
This switch 6224p is connected to another switch (the same model) in the server room
After connecting Layer 2 switch to 6224p (room 222) we have noticed extremely slow performance and response for ping about 400ms.
When we disconnect Netgear all gets back to normal, Netgear is Layer 2 switch about 10 ports and 3 wyse terminals and 1 computer connected to it.
Current port configuration (6224p):
At the moment Netgear is disconnected,
Not sure why that happens?

Hi,
Is spanning tree enabled? It sounds like the netgear switch is causing a lot of traffic and slowing everything else down. If you run show process cpu it will show how much of the switch cpu is being used and if it is working really hard when the other switch is connected.

If it is enabled then it isn’t a network loop causing I, we would want to figure out what is causing the excess traffic on the netgear, if it is a specific port that is flooding traffic or it is the switch itself.

Josh, if spanning tree is enabled, what would you do in this situation to fix the problem?
