How is the old switch setup? Does it have vlans set up on it? Nevertheless, I don't think plugging a printer or computer into the wrong vlan port will cause traffic to halt.
The old switch has the same vlan's setup on it. It's an old D-Link DES3326. The default route of the old switch is 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 10.1.210.1.
I tried again last night and no it didn't work with everything plugged into the correct subnet. Things were acting better, but still couldn't reliably ping to google.com. I would drop about 80% of the packets.
