Depending on the configuration of the 3Com NIC, you might still be getting a duplex mismatch. If the NIC is hard-set to 100full, the port on the switch needs to be also hard-set.

On the 3300 series switches, you must use the "no negotiation" command in addition to configuring the speed and duplex. If the switch is still set to auto-negotiation and the NIC is hard-set, you will get a duplex mismatch and the link will be established at 100half.

If you had portfast enabled on the non-Dell switch, you may also want to enable it on the 3300. The command is also "spanning-tree portfast".

In addition to the switch, you might also want to re-configure the NIC. I've seen many problems with the 3C905 NICs (typically the 3C905B and 3C905C) resolved by re-configuring the NIC using the 3c90xcfg.exe program from a DOS environment. The 3Com NIC keep a configuration saved in their EEPROM and it is usually more effective than simply using the Windows drivers. This utility is usually found on the last disk of the driver set. To re-configure the NIC, boot to DOS and run the 3c90xcfg program. From the main menu, choose Install and Configure Adapter. If you wish to hard-set the NIC, you can set the configuration here. If you want to set the NIC to auto-negotiation, select the Auto-Configuration option (the auto-configuration option will re-flash the EEPROM and try to detect the media type). Save the changes and reboot.

If you continue to see latency with both sides hard-set, try using the utilitiy to auto-configure the NIC and configure the Windows driver and switch to use auto-negotiation.
