PowerConnect 3424P and Cisco CDP

We are testing the new PowerConnect 3424 powered switches in an existing Cisco powered switch environment. It appears that the Dell switches do not support the Cisco CDP protocol (discovery protocol), allowing for the Cisco 79XX series IP phone to assign the phone port an IP address on the voice VLAN (in a separate DHCP scope than the data VLAN), with the PC switchport on the phone retrieving a DHCP address from the data VLAN scope  and passing it on to the PC.

Does anyone know of a workaround or any plans to add this functionality to the Dell line of powered switches. This is a huge problem and will prevent us from deploying the Dell switches as an alternative to the pricey Cisco models.

Thanks in advance

Can your IP phone tag either the voice or the data traffic first before it is sent to the switch?  If your phone can tag traffic then the work around is to configure the switch port in general mode to accept the tag traffic from the phone (let's say you tag voice traffic as VLAN 10) then you can set PVID on the port to tag all untagged traffic - which is data in this case to another VLAN.  Now you have voice on one VLAN and data on another VLAN into the switch.

Cuong.
