PowerConnect 5224 - Firmware Upgrades

How can I upgrade the firmware when the Operation Code is becoming to large to store 2 versions on the available flash?

I would like to upgrade to the most recent firmware code. However, the switch does not allow for delete the running code on flash.

I had the same problem. I solved it by installing v1.0.1.2 (only ~1MB), using this as boot-firmware, deleting the old one (v3.1.0.13) and installing the new one.

Good look !

The procedure for updating the firmware on the 5212/5224 is as follows:

  1. Copy config files to your TFTP server
  2. Use the "boot system config" command to set the boot config to factory default
  3. Delete all config files. You should have only one diag, one opcode, and the factory default config file.
  4. Copy the new firmware from the TFTP server
  5. Use the "boot system opcode" command to set boot firmware to the new version.
  6. Copy your old config from the TFTP server
  7. Use the "boot system config" command to set the boot config to your old config file
  8. Reboot

Once the switch reboots, you can delete the old firmware file and copy any other config files from the TFTP server.
