PowerConnect 5548 PoE Question

Hi everyone,

I just bought a Dell Powerconnect 5548 on a local classifieds site.  I had it shipped to me, rather than picking it up in person...or I would have noticed.

The switch was sold as a 5548P (as in, PoE).  The switch in the box was just a 5548...no PoE.  I need the PoE functionality, and I'm in somewhat of a hurry.

Here is my question: If I hook up a MPS600 to this switch (it has the MPS port), will that enable this switch to provide PoE?  I think I know the answer, but I want to make sure before I bother with the hassle.

Hello,

The MPS600 is only supported on 5548P, as it gives the ability to support all 48 ports in PoE. Actually what is missing in 5548 is the internal PSU for PoE, and even with a external MPS600 it shouldn't be able to provide PoE.

This is the theory, as we cannot test this environment in labo.

Let me know if you have other question on it.

Thanks

Marco
