two of the stacked switches turned out to be bad , dell sent me two refurbished ones, i stacked them with a third switch and left one switch as a standalone. so far everything is working properly, i will keep monitoring it, and will update you. thanks

Hi,
It is possible, but you would have to make sure you are not creating network loops.
