Powerconnect 2848 tagging multiple VLAN info needed
Hello,
Trying to make something out of my four 2848's. At the moment they are dummy switches and I've tried to have them handle more than the only one vlan 1 they seems able to do.... Also read many post about 2848 not complying...
The plan is to upling a 2848 to a Dell Force10 S-50.
Presently:
Two vlans 2-111 tagged (-T- from the gui) on both uplinks ports.
One port untagged (-U-) vlan 2
Ip addressing is set in the same address space as my VLAN 2 . I need to reach that switch from the network.
Now I've read a lot of post about trunking, tagging and it seems that my 2848 are missing some functions or modules...
Like: IP helper, add ip route, assign an IP to a vlan...
Can you help with this?
Thanx in advance
Dany

Hi,
Page 162 https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_networking/esuprt_net_fxd_prt_swtchs/powerconnect-2848_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf
The 2848 doesn’t have a lot of features for routing traffic since it is only a layer 2 switch.

Hi Josh,
I manage to get almost what I need when configuring the S50 port in hybrid mode.
Untag the vlan (in my case 2) that matches the address space of vlan1 (management IP) of the switch and tagged (111 in my case) while changing the pvid on those port in access mode or U mode.
Even in layer 2 mode only, those 2848 are pretty useless, wonder how Dell could mess this up so badly while brocade or adtrand did good basic switches and easy to understand/use.
Thank you for you help.
