Powerconnect 5324 VLAN question

Hey guys/gals I'm sort of new to networking/VLANS and just had a quick question...I'm using a PC5324 switch to enable multiple hosts to connect to different lab assets, however, the equipment is such that only the host and the asset its communicating w. can be on the network at once (seems dumb right?).  At any rate, I'm using VLANS to isolate the traffic so for host 'A' (say its on port 1) to be in the loop i have VLAN2 setup on ports 1 and 2(the lab asset), if I wanted host 'B' (on port 3) in the loop i change VLAN2 to be between 2 and 3 by adding 3 onto the VLAN and removing port 1.  I'm using syntax as follows to add the ports to the VLAN   interface range ethernet g(1-2)switchport general allowed vlan add 2 untaggedexit   Heres the syntax I'm using in the config file to remove ports from a VLAN   interface range ethernet g1switchport general allowed vlan remove 2exit   The real problem I'm having is that it works when I switch from host A in the loop to host B in the loop...however when i switch from host B to host A the ports never seem to come back up though I can see the correct VLAN's going down/up on the console.  In addition I modeled B's config file from the one used to setup host A so it seems like if B works A should as well.  Is there a way to completely overwrite the running-config when i copy the config file to the switch via a TFTP server, or a line I could add to the config file to remove all port/VLAN configuration?  The host equipment being switched in/out are SGI altix platforms and SGI 3800 machines if there are any compatibilty issues (doesnt seem like a possibility)...I have also been told that sometime ethernet ports on SGI/linux/unix machines can goto sleep if they see no activity...any ideas how to check and see if this is the case?  Any help or guidance would be appreciated O.o.     Best regards, John

Have you tried disabling the port before changing it then enabling the port after making the change? That might work :)
