Are you running the current firmware on both switches?  If you have already upgraded from sw ver. 5.2.5 or 5.1.4 to the latest ver. currently 6.0.4, did you disconnect the stack to flash each switch firmware individually and then rejoin them?

I've been having the same problem.the 3024. It freezes occassionally and causes our entire network to halt until it is restarted. Dell replaced it several months ago and we thought it was ok, but it froze again last week and once more today.

I will check the firmware version and post whether that is the fix or not.

We deployed 2 PowerConnect 3024 switches last night that were supposed to be stacked and uplinked to a Gigabit port on our HP Procurve 4108gl.  Initially I had them stacked, and they were working fine an hour after I set them up.  This morning when I checked it, the switches were not responding to pings and no traffic was passing through it.  The switches were already on the latest firmware available, 6.1.2.  The only workaround we were able to think of that worked was to unstack them and plug them into our HP Procurve individually.  They have been running fine so far today.

The switches were both used individually before we deployed them on our production network.  They worked without problems, and it looks like this problem only started happening after we had them stacked.  Any ideas or suggestions?

The switches both froze up again this morning.  This is even more disturbing since they were not stacked.  I don't understand what would be causing the switches to freeze up.  Per Dell's Tech Support, I should reset the switches to their factory default configurations.  I'm not so sure about that one.  I am keeping one switch plugged into HyperTerminal so I hopefully can catch an error message or crash message before it freezes.

These errors are reported when specific traffic flows on some customer networks cause a processor interrupt problem. One of the symptoms for this issue is a lockup of the processor requiring a reboot of the switch/stack. The 6.1.5 firmware (available by contacting tech support) resolves this issue along with loss of management to the switch.

The 6.1.5 firmware is valid for all of the 3024/3048/5012 products.

I have the same freeze issue.  We have about (6) 3024 switches connected via copper to a 5012.  Every 2-3 months, all the switches lock up with the same symptoms reported in this thread.  Rebooting the switches clears the problem. When I was first able to get some console output in 2001, this is what each switch was throwing out.  I haven't been near the switches in recent times to get any output.

sif_pkt_alloc: dblk allocate failed.
sif_pkt_alloc: dblk allocate failed.
sif_pkt_alloc: dblk allocate failed.

The most recent freeze occurred yesterday, 09-15-04 at 2:30AM EST.  All switches are running firmware 6.1.2.3291.

I'm tired of this problem already.  Dell has lost me as a customer of their switches.  I'd rather use our old 3Com 3900 switches and would if we had enough of them.

Greg, I only found firmware 612 for a powerconnect 3048 ... Is there a 615 ... also I saw that you had a doc showing how to do the upgrade. Can I get that?

Thanks ...

Mack

I'm looking for the current 'stable' version of the firmware for the 3024. Can anyone point me to the file? For some reason I can't seem to find it (6.1.4 or 6.1.5) on Dell's site.:
