Replace one S4048-ON in VLT Config with different firmware

Hi,

one of my S4048-ON Switches which are in a VLT configuration ran into the clock signal bug and is not booting anymore. I now need to replace it, but I'm not able to get the same firmware which is installed on the working one because it is too old. Version 9.9(0.0P9). I cannot upgrade the firmware on the working one, because in this case I would have a downtime and I want to a avoid it. Additionally I'm afraid the the one that is still running also ran into the clock signal bug, but it is still running and working. But I do not want to restart it, because I think he also won't boot anymore.

The question is, if I can configure the replacement switch, which will have a newer firmware the same way as the second one that went down and connect it to the VLT, will the VLT come up in a functional state with two swtiches with different firmware so that I can switch the traffic to the replacement switch without downtime?

Please advise. Thank you

Hi,

It should be fine to get it to failover to the replacement and then deal with the other switch. The worst case should be it doesn’t link because of the mismatch and you are in the same situation you are in now and need to have downtime. It isn’t something we have validated and is at your own risk, but I couldn’t find anything that said it wouldn’t work.
