Hello,
Our S4048-ON stopped working and is stuck in a boot loop (according to the LED manual information for the switch). I keep trying to console in with the recommended settings here and I can connect, but nothing will display in the console. We have the config saved but do not have a warranty for the switch. There are no red LEDs, just the system health one that keeps blinking.
I understand there was another thread for this same issue a few months ago but wanted to make a new one just in case there were newer recovery options.
Hello,
Sorry to hear that. I'm not sure if this is the other thread you're talking about but I'd like to add here https://dell.to/35MhRCJ
If you can reach the console, I was going to say do a factory reset on pg 16 https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/force10-s4048-on_owners-manual_en-us.pdf
It's very likely that the switch has a hardware issue. Might be helpful if do power drain the system but Frankly, It looks like the switch needs to be changed physically.
Hope this will helps!
Yes, that was the other thread I was looking at. We are still unable to console into the switch so I guess we do have to replace it.
However, is the networking clock signal issue still happening with dell switches? We got ours back in 2016 and are wondering if we can get a new switch through dells support as the article suggests
Hello @Ryan Deleurme
It is difficult to say if your switch could be affected by this issue or not without more information. But, according to the article, there are a couple of things we can verify.
First, we can check the date of manufacturing and make sure it is after February 7, 2017 as this was fixed on products sold beyond this date and they don't need to be replaced.
Second, the scenario of switch no longer under warranty is considered:
Q: What if my switch is no longer under warranty?
A: To be eligible for the Proactive Replacement Program, customers must have had a valid warranty contract as of 2/7/2017 or later. Customers with effected products that have a warranty expired prior to 2/7/2017 may choose to purchase a service contract to have affected products replaced.
Q: What if my switch is affected (was under warranty on Feb 7, 2017), but is no longer under warranty or service contract, and I experience a failure?
A: In this case the unit will be replaced as the program priority comes up. The replacement timing has no NBD (or other) timeline guarantees (in cases where there is no existing Support contract). To guarantee that units are replaced within the use case requirements, please keep the support contract current to ensure timely replacements.
Please, can you send us the Switch Service Tag via Private Message? Both to Erman and me?
Thank you in advanced.
Hello Diego and Ryan,
I'm in same case. I bought 2 switches S4048-ON in 2015, and this weekend we restart switches to boot test. These switches dont reboot by 4 years, and dont back after reboot. I lost 2 switches and not have serial console, switches only reboot repetly. Its same same case.
Dell Brazil refused to offer support to me, because my warranty expired october 2020. I trying to explane the case, but Dell Brazil refused to help me.

Thanks
Leonardo

Hi, LeoALage
I am posting the same comment here:
I understand you left two separate posts for two different servers.
Could you please direct message/private message (NOT as a reply here on this thread) Chris with your service tag as below so he can see if there's anything else to help?

LeoALage,
I apologize, my mistake. As far as the issue with the S4048 being stuck in a boot loop and no console, I came across a posting touching on the same issue with the same switch, which you can find here.
Thanks Chris, I'm trying to call with Dell Brazil, but dont have sucessfull yet.
I made a video to help another users with same problem, do you know if this diagnose its really clock signal bug?
Console really dead, and switch only on reboot cicle
