VLAN Trunking between Powerconnect 6248 and Dlink Smart Switch DGS-1210-24
Hi,
We've been having problems getting our 6248 to play nice with the Dlink smart switch over tagged Vlan.
On the Powerconnect 6248 (routing enabled):
- Vlan 1 IP 10.0.0.88
- 1/g30 is the uplink port to the Dlink#1 and is a member of:
= Vlan30 (untag), IP 192.168.30.1, routing enabled (no other member port)
= Vlan55 (tagged), IP 192.168.55.1, routing enabled (no other member port)
- 1/g40 is the uplink port to the Dlink#2 and is a member of:
= Vlan40 (untag), IP 192.168.40.1, routing enabled (no other member port)
= Vlan55 (tagged), IP 192.168.55.1, routing enabled (no other member port)
- Vlan30 was bound to 192.168.30.0/255.255.255.0
- Vlan40 was bound to 192.168.40.0/255.255.255.0
- Vlan55 was bound to 192.168.55.0/255.255.255.0
On the Dlink Smart Switch #1:
- Vlan 1 IP 10.0.0.30
- Default gateway 10.0.0.88
- 1/g20 is the uplink port to the Powerconnect port30 and is a member of:
= Vlan55 (tagged), no IP, no routing (other port members are: 22,23,24)
= Vlan1 (untag), no IP, no routing (other port members: all remaining ports)
On the Dlink Smart Switch #2:
- Vlan 1 IP 10.0.0.40
- Default gateway 10.0.0.88
- 1/g20 is the uplink port to the Powerconnect port40 and is a member of:
= Vlan55 (tagged), no IP, no routing (other port members are: 22,23,24)
= Vlan1 (untag), no IP, no routing (other port members: all remaining ports)
Our expectation:
1. Devices on Vlan1 on both Dlink switches should be able to see & connect to any Vlan55 devices (e.g. printers) that are on either Dlink switches.
Our tests on Dlink#1:
1. We attached PC#1 to a Vlan1 port on Dlink#1 (IP 192.168.30.5, gateway 192.168.30.1) and we CAN ping the gateway (which is on the Powerconnect).
2. We attached PC#2 to a Vlan55 port on Dlink#1 (IP 192.168.55.160, gateway 192.168.55.1) and we CANNOT ping the gateway (which is on the Powerconnect).
3. Similarly, we could not ping between PC#1 and PC#2 even though routing is enabled on the Powerconnect.
Is our expectation wrong? If not, is there something wrong with our configuration? NOTE: We did not use Vlan Trunking because it will "Allow Tag Only".
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize for the misleading title. It should say "Tagged Vlan" and not "Vlan trunking". I also forgot to mention that the Powerconnect 6248 is a L3 switch.
