Any Site To Measure Internet Speed!?

My surfing has become incredibly slow. Just now when I pressed "New Message" it took a bit over 2 minutes for the blank message page to come up. I know that the Dell Forums can be slow some times, but other sites I go to have the same problem. I connect through MSN via dialup and have learned to live the comparative slowness of the type of connection, but the last few weeks it has been getting ridiculous. So I need to get an accurate reading of just how fast my connections are.

I have 44 processes running in Task Manager and the CPU usage seem to average about 3% with occasional spikes, but not up to 100%. I did a scan a log with HJT and don't see anything unusual there, and don't have pop ups and other symptoms of malware. I update regularly for virus and spyware. Other than MSN I don't know if anything else running, but here is a list of my security programs.

Zone Alarm Free Home Edition Firewall
Avast Free Version Anti-virus Program
Ad-Aware SE  (This program is has been displaying an error message about having a compromised definition file. It is a known issue                          and others are having the same problem)
Spybot Search and Destroy
Window Defender beta version
Spyware Doctor (Just installed this this past weekend. I have no idea if there is any conflict amongst any of these security products, which is why I wanted to list them here.

I am thinking of getting a faster way of connecting, and need to do a bit of study. Right now I use Qwest as my landline, and they offer DSL I believe. I just need to find out if it is my computer bogging down or the crummy dial up and the associated circuits. Thanks for any advice. Dale

Try consolidating that list of spyware programs down to about two and only one AV program.

Any Site To Measure Internet Speed!?

I use www.toast.net.  It was designed for broadband users but I suppose you could use it to check a dialup connection.

If you hold your cursor/pointer over the modem connection in the sys tray, it should tell you what your connection speed is.  My mother-in-law's computer had a 56k modem, but could never connect any faster than the high 30's low 40's.  The phone company came out, did some "tweaks" (I think she had bad corroded wiring outside) and her connection improved to the maximum 53k.

I've used this site to test my cable connection:

Good Luck!

The speed shows up on the tray as 46.60 and this phone line is in an apartment building thats 30 years old. So don't know about the condition of the wiring, but I might go with Qwest DSL since I have their landline. I will try to check the speed using the links you guys have supplied above. Also, I think that the PC Pitstop test also did some kind of connection speed test

The max speed you will get out of a dialup connection is around 52 kbps so you connection is pretty good.

I will give some tips to fix the problem. You can reset the modem. Then try using the internet connection. If the same slow speed problem will occurs you can better call the ISP and inform this problem. Before calling them you can also try another method. You can get a laptop or PC from your friends or neighbor try to connect your internet in the device check the speed of the internet at Scanmyspeed.com if the speed is good;the problem is in your PC so better give the pc to nearest service center the technician will find out the problem and fix it.This is solution for this.I hope you get the solution almost.
