Attempting to set up Netgear 54 mps router

I have purchased a Dell Inspirion laptop with wireless capability, and am attempting to "activate" my router that I purchased as well.  I have utililzed the install wizard (cd) that came with, and have repeatedly hit a roadblack after I made the appropriate connections,  restarted the modem/router (all the appropriate lights on on both the modem and the router)  The screen shows that I have "reconnected" to the system, and then goes blank (white), and sits there.  It's like it is waiting for something.  I have gotten to this point three times.  I would appreciate any suggestions.   I am using Bellsouth DSL.  I know I have to login to the router to activate the wireless capability, but it appears I can't "get to the router".

Try connecting to the router by a wired ethernet adapter and then opening a Internet Explorer and typing http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar.  Can you get to the router's configuration utility that way?

I am having the same problem with my Inspiron E1505, Netgear WGR614 v6 and Bellsouth DSL.  I am unable to connect to the router with a wired ethernet connection.  Any other suggestions?

soconfused,

I am currently helping another user with their problem.  If you want help with yours, start a new thread.  It gets way too confusing trying to deal with two problems and two users in the same thread.

I believe a netgear router uses www.routerlogin.net in the address bar.  the default user name is admin and the password is password.

Steve,

Thanks for the response.  I attempted to go to the address you provided, and again I get a blank screen.  Plus, I can't get to the internet in general (I have an ethernet connection from my lap top to the router, and from router to modem)  I can get to the netgear site if I directly connected from the PC to the DSL modem, but I don't think I can "enable" my router this way (if I can, please advise).

Thanks again
