Can't browse internet after installing windows xp sp2

Hey all!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 2.4 Ghz 512mb Ram that is running microsoft windows xp home edition 2002 sp2. Now, I just upgraded to service pack 2, and ever since doing so, I cannot browse the internet, at least not with IE which is the only browser that I have up. If I uninstall the SP2 update, I can browse just find. I use a wireless and ethernet/dsl connection depending and this happens on both ways of connecting. So, I am unsure what to do. I think that I have every known relevant update known to man, but I am unsure. If you could hel p me out, I would love it!! I have uninstalled and reinstalled like 3 times, I have no detectable viruses or spyware. I have run different utilities and processes. I can browse when I first sign on, or directly after I repair the network connection, but within 30 seconds the browser acts as if I am not connected to the internet and says the webpages cannot be displayed. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

The only other thing that comes to mind is unisattling the adapters and rebooting to let them reinstall.  How up to date is your BIOS?

Same problem here with a Inspiron 8200. I did a clean install of Windows XP yesterday, everything went fine did all the updates and installed SP 2, now I have internet for about 30secs. The connection is ok, I'm getting an IP number from my router but no internet. I turned off my firewall and manually entered the first and second DNS number. I did all the known patches and fixes but still the same problem.

Greetings,

Use DHCP settings, not manual settings.

Did you put in the addresses of the WINS servers?  Both are needed.

See my IP config on the previous page I don't see my WINS address... or do I need to use the gateway address?

I normally use DHCP settings but I tried manual to see if it made a difference but it didn't so I switched back to DHCP.

Another strange thing I just discovered!
I connected my ethernet cable that usually is connected to my Dell Inspiron 9300 to the 8200 and it doesn't see the cable! See the ip config. The cable works perfect on my 9300. I downloaded the driver from the Dell site on my 9300 (USB Stick) and installed it when I finished installing SP2 on my 8200. The driver doesn't report an error.

Try powering down everything and then connect cables to each machine thne power up.  I have seen instances where a statci IP Address was necessary but you will need the address fo the WINS servers whihc can be obtained by

ipconfig /all

Ok, if I enter an IP address in my browser it opens the page?!?!? So some kind of DNS problem?

Use ipconifg /all not ipconfig.  The DNS will come from the router.  Check the status page in the router.

I thought I solved the network card problem, I disabled function that let's Windows turn off the network card for energy saving. This worked for about 2 minutes (still no Internet!) and... now Windows is again not recognizing the cable!

This is the IP config when the card was on and I disconnected the Wireless card.
