Centrino Wireless-N 2230 5GHz Possibilities?
So a while back I bought my current laptop, the Inspiron 17R-7720, and my internet has been quite slow ever since I used this laptop. I looked into possible causes of this and realized that the modem that I own has a 5GHz signal that it outputs but my laptop for some reason couldn't see it. I also looked into that and realized that my Centrino Wireless-N 2230 network adapter is a single band so it can't pick up that signal. I was wondering how big of a difference the 2.4 GHz signal is in terms of speed compared to a 5 GHz signal. If that difference is significant, then I also am wondering what my options are to be able to pick up that 5 GHz signal. Thanks!

5GHz can carry more data (but has a shorter range), so it has the potential to be faster, BUT ONLY within your own home/business network with similarly-equipped devices. It will make NO difference to your general Internet speeds, since your Internet connection will be slower than your wireless speeds anyway.
Your wireless card does not have the capability of 5GHz wireless - it is not necessary to upgrade to 5GHz, but if you do want to use 5GHz wireless networks, then you will need to purchase a different wireless card for your system.
